WHAT IS FAIR TRADE?    Fair Trade fights poverty by providing sustainable livelihoods. Fair Trade is trading partnership, a sustainable business model, that establishes better trading conditions to, and secures the rights of, marginalized producers, artisans and workers.  

WHAT IS fairtrade.sg?   We are a resource for people and organizations in Singapore to support Fair Trade.  fairtrade.sg was created by Footprint Singapore, a group of individuals and organizations involved in activities that promote civic responsibility and personal power, especially those related to lifestyle and consumption.  fairtrade.sg  has its own student movement, Fair Trade Action. 

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?  Supporting Fair Trade is something concrete and effective that you can do right now and that will have a real positive impact on the lives of millions of marginalized producers and farmers in developing countries.

WHY IS FAIR TRADE AWESOME?

 Fair Trade is a business model to improve livelihoods and protect people, communities and the planet.  Fair Trade: 

      Provides a fair wage

      Encourages sustainability and capacity building (long-term trading contracts, prepayment and credit terms, technical assistance)

      Empowers workers by establishing democratically run collectives

      Protects human rights (social justice, economic security, environmental responsibility)

      Nurtures communities, a portion of profits are put back into the community for health, education, sanitation etc.

      Includes standards for quality

      Demands transparency

      Is an impetus for change, puts ethics on the agenda Provides a civic/consumer platform for campaigning
